Exterior and grounds inspection checklist

Water goes where the grading sends it. Look before it does. Most expensive building problems start outside: a downspout that dumps at the foundation, a walkway that heaves, a light that is out where someone will fall. This is the built-in exterior and grounds template — a focused survey you can run seasonally without going indoors.

10 items in 5 areas · the built-in “Exterior & grounds” template, as it ships

How to run it

In the app an item can also answer as pass/fail, done/not done or a number, and any Fair or Poor item becomes a work order in one tap. The PDF prints the checklist as shown, with a notes line per item and a signature block.

Want a reminder to run it again?

The download needs no address. If you'd like one email on the day it's due again, leave it here; that's the only email unless you tick the box.

When not to use it

  • — A roof condition survey — use the roof template or a roofer.
  • — Common areas of an association with pool and amenities — the HOA and amenity templates cover those.

What goes wrong

  • — Walking on a dry day and rating drainage Good.
  • — Noting a light is out without noting which fixture.

What this is not

A visual walk by whoever manages the property. It is not a licensed, certified, engineering, fire-code or regulatory inspection and does not replace one where the law, the lender, the insurer or the authority having jurisdiction requires it.

Questions

Exterior & grounds: what people ask

When should I walk the exterior?

After the leaves and before the freeze, and again in spring; after any storm that made the news. The app's cadence tells you when the next one is due.

Is this a roof inspection?

No — it looks at the roof from the ground. Use the roof template, or a roofer, when you need the surface, the flashing and the penetrations examined up close.

What counts as a trip hazard?

Any change in level a shoe can catch. Photograph it with something for scale and rate it Poor; the work order carries the photo to the concrete contractor.
