Building safety inspection checklist

The walk that proves the exit was clear on the date it mattered. This is the management-side safety walk: the things a person can see and date — the extinguisher tag, the exit sign lit, the door that closes, the path a wheelchair can take. It is the built-in safety and compliance template. It is not the fire marshal's inspection or the sprinkler contractor's test; it is how you know, before they come, what they will find.

11 items in 5 areas · the built-in “Safety & compliance” template, as it ships

How to run it

Three passes, in walking order

1

Means of egress

Every exit door opens and closes, egress lighting and exit signs lit, corridors and stairs clear, handrails firm. Photograph each exit with the date.

2

Fire protection you can see

Extinguisher tags current and gauges in the green, alarm panel with no trouble light, sprinkler heads unobstructed, fire doors not propped.

3

Accessibility and hazards

Accessible route and parking, door hardware, restrooms, trip hazards, storage against walls.

In the app an item can also answer as pass/fail, done/not done or a number, and any Fair or Poor item becomes a work order in one tap. The PDF prints the checklist as shown, with a notes line per item and a signature block.

Want a reminder to run it again?

The download needs no address. If you'd like one email on the day it's due again, leave it here; that's the only email unless you tick the box.

When not to use it

  • — The monthly life-safety round on its own — use that template.
  • — Any inspection a code, an insurer or an authority requires to be done by a licensed party.

What goes wrong

  • — Rating an extinguisher Good without reading the tag date.
  • — Photographing the exit sign, not the door swing.

What this is not

A management walk of what can be seen. It is not a fire-code, sprinkler, alarm, elevator or accessibility inspection, none of which it replaces; those are done by the authority having jurisdiction or a licensed contractor on their own schedule.

The finished report

Complete the walk and the PDF exists

Every item with its rating, notes and photos; an action-items table by priority; signatures captured on the phone or through a link. No export step. See a finished one before you sign up.

Built for facilities teams

Facilities / commercial

Monthly life-safety, PM rounds, HVAC and roof — with a paper trail that survives an audit.

Pick “Facilities / commercial” at signup — or start from this page and it's already picked — and the app leads with this template and speaks the trade's words.

Questions

Safety & compliance: what people ask

Does this replace the annual fire inspection?

No. The authority having jurisdiction, the sprinkler and alarm contractors and the extinguisher service each do their own inspections on their own schedules and sign their own tags. This walk is how you keep the building ready between them.

Is this an ADA audit?

No. Accessibility law and standards are specific and an audit is a specialist's job. The items here are the visible basics a manager can keep right.

How often?

Monthly is common for the egress and fire-protection items; the app's cadence keeps it on the calendar. Use the fire and life-safety monthly template when that is the whole job.
