Punch list template, with examples

The punch list before the homeowner walks it. A punch list is what is still wrong at substantial completion: the drywall touch-up, the cabinet door out of alignment, the missing outlet cover. Walk it before the client does. This is the Punch list — substantial completion template built into Sitesui, organised by trade; in the app each open item becomes a punch item assigned to the sub, with a photo, and the record shows before and after.

21 items in 5 areas · the built-in “Punch list — substantial completion” template, as it ships

How to run it

Three passes, in walking order

1

Outside in

Siding, trim and paint; exterior doors and weatherstrip; grading and downspout extensions; driveway and porch; garage door and opener.

2

Interior finish, then MEP

Drywall and paint, trim and caulk, doors and hardware, flooring, cabinets, countertops, tile and glass. Then plumbing trim, devices and the GFCI/AFCI test, fixtures, registers and thermostat, water heater.

3

Cleanup and documents

Debris out, stickers off the windows, warranties and manuals, keys and codes. Anything not done is a punch item with a sub's name on it.

In the app an item can also answer as pass/fail, done/not done or a number, and any Fair or Poor item becomes a work order in one tap. The PDF prints the checklist as shown, with a notes line per item and a signature block.

Questions

Punch list: what people ask

What are some punch list examples?

Paint: roller marks on the stair wall, a missed touch-up behind the powder-room door. Trim: a caulk gap at the kitchen crown, nail holes unfilled on the closet casing. Doors: the pantry door rubs the jamb, the master lock set is loose. Flooring: a lifted plank at the slider, grout haze on the hall tile. Electrical: the dining-room dimmer buzzes, an outlet cover missing in the garage. Plumbing: the kitchen sprayer leaks at the base, the guest-bath stopper does not hold. Exterior: a downspout extension missing at the front corner, a cracked siding course by the meter. Each one is a line with a photo, a room and a trade — that is the whole list.

Is this the same as a final walkthrough?

No. The punch list is the builder's own pass at substantial completion. The Final walkthrough with homeowner template is the orientation and sign-off; the 11-month warranty walkthrough is the last visit. All three are built in.

Does each punch item go to the sub?

In the app, yes: a Poor or Not done item becomes a punch item pre-filled with the photo and a trade, assigned to the sub and tracked to done. The sub gets a link — no account.

Can items answer Done / Not done instead of Good / Fair / Poor?

Yes. An item can answer as a condition, a pass/fail, a done/not-done or a number, and the report's legend shows only the scales the checklist used.
