Storm damage inspection checklist

The morning after, one record: what broke, where, when, and who is fixing it. After a storm everyone wants the same things from the manager at once: is it safe, what is damaged, who is coming, and what does the carrier need. This is the built-in storm damage template for common areas — safety, trees, roofs and exteriors, the site, amenities and next steps — walked once, photographed as found, so the vendors get work orders, the board gets the report and the carrier gets dated photos.

19 items in 7 areas · the built-in “Storm damage — common areas” template, as it ships

How to run it

Three passes, in walking order

1

Safety before photos

Downed wires kept clear and reported to the utility; hazards cordoned off. Nothing else matters until that is done.

2

Photograph as found

Trees, roofs, siding, fencing, drainage, the clubhouse and pool, before anything is moved. The photo's time is the record the carrier asks for.

3

Turn findings into jobs

Each Poor item becomes a work order with its photo; the report shares by link with the board and the insurance contact.

The checklist

In the app an item can also answer as pass/fail, done/not done or a number, and any Fair or Poor item becomes a work order in one tap. The PDF prints the checklist as shown, with a notes line per item and a signature block.

Want a reminder to run it again?

The download needs no address. If you'd like one email on the day it's due again, leave it here; that's the only email unless you tick the box.

When not to use it

  • — Damage inside a homeowner's unit — that is between the owner and their own insurer.
  • — Tree risk or structural assessment — an arborist or engineer.

What goes wrong

  • — Clearing debris before photographing it.
  • — Photographing the damage without something in frame that shows where it is.

What this is not

Documentation by whoever manages the property. It is not an insurance claim, an adjuster's estimate, an engineer's assessment or a tree risk assessment.

Every item with its rating, notes and photos; an action-items table by priority; signatures captured on the phone or through a link. No export step. See a finished one before you sign up.

Questions

Storm damage: what people ask

Is this an insurance claim?

No. It is the documentation a claim usually needs. The claim, the adjuster and what the policy covers are between the association and its carrier.

Should we wait for the adjuster before cleaning up?

Follow your carrier's instructions and do what safety requires. Photograph before you move anything, which is what this walk is for.

Can homeowners report damage too?

Yes. They can report by QR or link, and their reports land beside the walk's findings.
